Thai Massage was used in Chiang Mai in ancient times as a means of healing and combating sickness and disease, and has gained popularity among both locals and tourists today. [more]



The art of Thai Traditional massage, as it is now called, requires a comprehensive knowledge of the body - namely the bones, tendons, ligaments, and muscles. It is said that Thai traditional massage is useful in helping to relieve the pain and symptoms of chronic aches and pains in the muscles and bones. Many people are also surprised at the soothing effects that the massage has in helping to reduce stress.

The actual massage itself begins at the feet and work its way up the legs, waist, back, shoulders, and the neck area. The masseuse may spend a larger amount of the on a certain area of the body, depending on the client's needs. The complete traditional massage will last about two hours.

A full Thai massage usually takes 2 hours, but shorter facial and foot massages are offered. Prices vary from 100 to 300 Baht per hour, but masseuses like tip to supplement there income.

There are numerous places offering Traditional Thai Massage in Chiang Mai.

Massage (Non-traditional)

There are also massage parlors in Chiang Mai, where the woman (or man) will climb with you in the bathtub and wash you from head to toe before the massage. Some parlors with masseuses are offering their service to men and women.

This service has not much to do with traditional Thai massage and the masseuses are chosen because of there beauty and not because of there skills in massage.

Sayuri Complex

The Sayuri Complex in Chiang Mai is situated some few minutes by tuktuk at 3 Soi 2 Bumrungat Road, across the river.

It offers a snooker club, a thai style \"coffee shop\": dark and with noisy music performance, and a clinic for traditional health massage.

Massage with extras is in another department, with around 50-60 Thai massage girls working there.
