Arran Ewan Cental Duangtawan Hotel is in a great location in Chiang Mai, a stone s throw from the night market. The hotel is a modern, large establishment with excellent leisure facilities. My wife and I stayed on the 19th floor which offered great views over the city and to the hills over-looking Chiang Mai. As other people have written, the elevators are slow but that s no big deal, you are on holiday, what’s the rush! The pool was really nice and fortunately the sun was shining when we were there so we could relax on the sun loungers and have a nice swim and cold Chang beer after a hard day sightseeing. The only down side to the pool was the noise from the construction of a nearby building site (another hotel no doubt), but as I discovered you cannot escape the on-going construction and development anywhere in Thailand these days! The breakfast at the hotel offered a good mix and was excellent for setting us up for the day ahead. The hotel seems really popular with Japanese and Korean guests but in fairness there was a real mix of nationalities staying there, although I think we were the only Scottish people! Overall, a great hotel that definitely met my expectations. Chiang Mai is a great place to visit, and the food at the night bazaar was amazing and really cheap. Definitely buy any souvenirs or clothes etc here in Chiang Mai as you will not find cheaper elsewhere. Also, I would highly recommend doing a Thai cooking course while in the city as it was great experience (we went with Ban Thai Cooking who were excellent). Also take the opportunity to get a great Thai massage at a place called Let’s Relax which is really close by to the hotel at the Chiang Mai Pavilion, well worth it to chill out for an hour and for only 400THB.
Paul Leow Clean, efficient and courteous service from the hotel and staff. Check in and check out was done with minimum of fuss and without undue delay. Communication with front desk staff was excellent and friendly. Housekeeping was satisfactory and bell boys were polite and efficient. Few negative points, among which were the really slow elevator/lift; food at coffee house at dinner time lacked inspiration (the khao pad was pathetic); bathroom lacked a hand bidet which is standard equipment for most 4* hotels; no tea making facilities in the deluxe room, this is disappointing because the time taken in lift to reach coffee house and elsewhere is so slow, having a cuppa can be a chore. Overall 7.5 points out of ten. Hope the hotel will strive for a more excellent rating.
Lynn Constantine This is the third time we have stayed in this hotel. An excellent location, a short walk to the night bazaar. Beautiful lobby, spacious restaurant (first-class buffet breakfast) and a fantastic swimming pool. The staff are efficient and friendly. We will definitely stay there again.
